IZMIR, TURKEY — Danish home and living retailer JYSK has opened its first store in Izmir, taking its directly operated network in Turkey to 14 locations as the company targets 18 stores nationwide by the end of the year.

The opening marks another step in JYSK’s direct investment strategy in Turkey following previous expansion in Istanbul, Aydın, Sakarya, Bursa and Muğla. The retailer, which operates more than 3,600 stores across 50 countries, said it plans to continue entering new regions while expanding employment and supporting local economies.

The Izmir location offers more than 2,000 products, ranging from furniture and home accessories to sleep-related products, with a store concept designed around the Scandinavian approach to simple, functional living.

Izmir becomes JYSK’s 14th location in Turkey

JYSK said the new store is its first in Izmir and its fourth location in the Aegean region.

The investment strengthens the retailer’s presence in western Turkey while extending a broader expansion strategy based on directly operated stores.

JYSK Turkey Country Director Fatih Tezcan said the company was continuing to grow in response to the interest it has received in the Turkish market.

He described Izmir as one of the Aegean region’s key commercial centers and said the new location represented an important step in the company’s regional expansion.

“With our first store in Izmir, we are continuing our investments with determination.”

According to Tezcan, the company aims to combine further store openings with local employment and economic activity in the regions where it operates.

Company targets 18 stores by year-end

JYSK’s Turkey expansion is set to continue beyond Izmir.

The company said it plans to increase its Turkish store network from the current 14 locations to 18 by the end of the year.

Its next regional move is expected in Central Anatolia, with a store in Ankara scheduled to open in October.

Tezcan said JYSK would continue investing in what the company considers suitable locations across Turkey rather than limiting growth to the cities where it already operates.

The planned Ankara opening would also broaden the geographical reach of the brand after its expansion across Istanbul and several cities in the Aegean and Marmara regions.

JYSK said the strategy is intended to support long-term growth in the Turkish retail market through direct investment.

More than 2,000 products offered at the Izmir store

The new Izmir location carries a range of more than 2,000 products across multiple home and living categories.

The assortment includes furniture, home accessories and sleep-related products, reflecting the retailer’s Scandinavian design positioning.

JYSK describes its retail concept as combining functionality, simplicity and accessible pricing.

The Izmir store also includes room displays and dedicated inspiration areas designed to help customers view products in complete living-space settings rather than only as individual items.

According to the company, the layout is intended to make it easier for customers to explore different decoration ideas and identify products for specific areas of the home.

Tezcan said the retailer wants the new store to provide what he described as a comfortable and inspiring shopping environment for consumers in Izmir.

Scandinavian ‘hygge’ concept remains central to the brand

JYSK is positioning its Izmir investment around the Scandinavian “hygge” approach associated with comfort, simplicity and functional living spaces.

The company said the new store was designed with dedicated lighting, room concepts and a warm atmosphere intended to reflect that approach.

Product categories have also been organized to provide relatively straightforward solutions for different home and decoration needs, according to the retailer.

Tezcan said JYSK aims to bring together quality, aesthetics, functionality and accessible pricing as it expands in Turkey.

The Izmir opening therefore represents not only an additional sales point but also an extension of the store format the company uses across its international network.

JYSK currently operates more than 3,600 stores in 50 countries, giving the Danish retailer a substantial international presence in the home and living market.

FSC-certified wood products form part of sustainability approach

Sustainability is also included in JYSK’s positioning for the Turkish market.

Tezcan highlighted the company’s use of FSC-certified wood products, saying the retailer aims to consider sustainability while maintaining its product and quality standards.

FSC certification is associated with wood and forest-based products sourced according to defined forest-management and chain-of-custody requirements.

For international furniture and home retailers, sourcing policies have become an increasingly visible part of corporate sustainability strategies because wood is used across a large range of furniture and household products.

JYSK presented its certified wood offering as part of the broader value proposition it is bringing to consumers through its new Izmir location.

Expansion combines retail growth with local employment

The company is also linking its store-opening program to employment and regional economic activity.

Tezcan said future openings in different parts of Turkey would be accompanied by efforts to create jobs, contribute to local development and generate additional value for regional economies.

The Izmir investment comes as JYSK continues to expand through directly operated stores rather than limiting its presence to a small number of major metropolitan markets.

Following its growth in Istanbul, Aydın, Sakarya, Bursa, Muğla and now Izmir, the planned Ankara store will take the company into another major geographical region.

If JYSK reaches its stated 18-store target by the end of the year, the company will have added four more locations to its Turkish network after the Izmir opening.

For the retailer, the new store therefore represents another stage in a broader nationwide growth plan built around direct investment, regional expansion and its Scandinavian home-and-living concept.
